Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the orange zest and juice until combined.
- Make a well in the center; add heavy cream and beaten egg. Mix gently until just combined.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead lightly and shape into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges or rounds.
- Place on the prepared baking sheet, brush with cream if desired, and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add dried cranberries or chocolate chips.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
- For freshness, reheat scones briefly in the oven.
