Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices American cheese
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- lettuce, tomato, onion (as desired)
Instructions
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Form the ground beef into four loose balls (about 3 ounces each).
- Place the beef balls on the hot grill or skillet and press down firmly with a spatula to flatten them into patties.
- Season with salt and pepper immediately after smashing.
- About one minute before finishing, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover briefly until melted.
- Toast the burger buns if desired, then assemble the burgers with your chosen toppings.
Notes
- Experiment with different toppings like avocado or jalapeños for added flavor.
- Allow patties to sear without moving them for the best crust.
