Ingredients
Scale
- 1 head green cabbage
- 1 lb lean ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 2 tsp dried thyme
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp paprika
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare cabbage leaves by boiling the whole head in water for about 5 minutes until tender. Remove and cool.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions until golden, then add garlic for an additional minute.
- In a large bowl, combine ground meat, rice, sautéed onions and garlic, paprika, herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Lay out each cabbage leaf, place filling at the base, fold sides over tightly, and roll from bottom to top.
- Spread half of the tomato sauce in a baking dish. Arrange rolls seam-side down and pour the remaining sauce on top.
- Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour until cooked through.
Notes
- Use fresh cabbage for best texture.
- Customize fillings with quinoa or lentils for variety.
