- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 medium carrots, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups homemade mashed potatoes
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until fragrant and translucent (about 5 minutes).
- Add ground beef, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste. Cook until browned.
- Stir in diced carrots and frozen peas; sauté for another 5 minutes until heated through.
- Pour in beef broth and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
- While the filling simmers, prepare creamy mashed potatoes if not already made.
- In a baking dish, layer the meat mixture first. Spread mashed potatoes on top and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
