Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (500g)
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 ¾ cups warm water (420ml)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar (25g)
- 1 tsp salt (6g)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (28g)
Instructions
- 1. Activate Yeast: In a bowl, mix warm water with sugar. Sprinkle in yeast and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2. Create Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- 3. Knead: On a floured surface, knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm area until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- 5. Shape: Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf by flattening gently, rolling tightly, and tucking in ends.
- 6. Second Rise: Place in a greased loaf pan, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 7. Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Cool before slicing.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider substituting half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour or incorporating herbs such as rosemary or thyme.
- To keep bread fresh longer, store it in an airtight container or bag at room temperature.
