Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic; sauté for 3-5 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour in the canned whole tomatoes with their juices. Gently crush the tomatoes with a wooden spoon while simmering.
- Stir in dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for 20-30 minutes to meld flavors.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed; add torn fresh basil if desired.
- Serve over cooked pasta or use as a versatile base for other dishes.
