Ingredients
Scale
- 10 cups challah bread, cubed
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup maple syrup (plus extra for serving)
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (for greasing)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with unsalted butter.
- Cut the challah into bite-sized cubes and place them in the prepared dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and maple syrup until well combined.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are evenly coated.
- Cover tightly with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate overnight to allow flavors to meld.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove cover and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and set in the middle.
- Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar and extra maple syrup on the side.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for better flavor absorption; fresh bread may become soggy.
- Add fruits like berries or bananas for extra flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
