Ingredients
Scale
- 1 French baguette (12 oz)
- 2 cups ripe tomatoes (heirloom or vine-ripened), diced
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the baguette into thick pieces and arrange them on a baking sheet. Toast until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Stir gently to combine.
- (Optional) Drizzle balsamic vinegar over the tomato mixture for added flavor.
- Generously spoon the tomato mixture onto each toasted baguette slice.
- Serve immediately on a platter and enjoy!
Notes
- For added variety, substitute tomatoes with roasted bell peppers or sprinkle feta cheese for an extra zing.
- Make topping ahead of time but toast the bread just before serving to maintain crispiness.
