Ingredients
Scale
- 14 oz firm tofu
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (optional)
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Drain the firm tofu and press between paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Cut pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes (about 1 inch).
- In a bowl, mix cornstarch, garlic powder, and optional ginger. Toss each tofu cube in the mixture until well coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
- Fry tofu cubes in batches for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Remove tofu from oil and drain on paper towels. Drizzle with soy sauce and garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
Notes
- For added flavor, marinate the tofu in soy sauce or teriyaki sauce before coating with cornstarch.
- You can bake the tofu at 400°F for about 25 minutes for a healthier alternative to frying.
