Crispy fried mushrooms are a deliciously addictive snack, featuring a golden, crunchy coating and juicy interiors that make for the perfect appetizer or side dish.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 4

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh mushrooms (button or cremini)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup seasoned bread crumbs (or panko)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (enough for deep frying)

Instructions

  1. Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with bread crumbs.
  2. Clean the mushrooms by rinsing them gently under cool water and patting them dry.
  3. Dip each mushroom into the flour first, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat thoroughly in bread crumbs.
  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to about 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the coated mushrooms in batches until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes each. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels; sprinkle lightly with salt.

Notes

  • For added flavor, mix garlic powder or paprika into the flour before breading.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days; reheat in an oven at 350°F for optimal crispiness.
