Scale
- 2 cups mini onions (about 8-10)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk mixed with vinegar)
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Peel mini onions and cut off half an inch from the top, leaving the root intact.
- Soak onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to enhance flavor and adherence.
- In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Set up a station with the flour mixture and panko breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each onion in the flour mixture, dip back into buttermilk, then coat with panko breadcrumbs.
- Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray both sides of each onion with cooking spray.
- Arrange onions in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway through.

- Experiment with additional spices like smoked paprika for extra flavor.
- Ensure onion petals are well-separated in the air fryer for optimal crispiness.
